Assistant or Associate Professor Biomedical Ethics | 1,0fte | department of Health, Ethics and Society

Teaching (50%), in the context of undergraduate and graduate courses in both the medical and the biomedical curricula;

Research (50%), with a focus on the ethics of reproductive medicine, personalized medicine, prevention (incl. eHealth/mHealth), and AI. The relevant ethics research will be embedded in both the Care and Public Health Research Institute (CAPHRI) and GROW, the School for Oncology and Reproduction, at Maastricht University

Academic citizenship, incl. membership METC/Ethics Advisory Board of the MUMC+, and ethical advisory work.

• background in normative ethics (philosophy or theology);
• a PhD on a (biomedical) ethics topic;
• expertise regarding the ethics of reproductive and personalized medicine, mHealth/eHealth, and AI;
• a strong research profile and publication record;
• willingness to engage in qualitative empirical research;
• willingness to apply for research grants;
• a record of high quality teaching and a willingness to develop and coordinate the ethics part of the curricula in medicine and biomedical sciences;
• an interdisciplinary attitude;
• a willingness and ability to professionally connect to national and international debates linked with relevant research domains;
• University Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO) or willingness to achieve this within 2 years after employment;
• proficiency in Dutch and English, both oral and in writing (min. C1).

• Full-time employment for a fixed period of 12 months, with the possibility of permanent employment.
• The salary is dependent on the role (assistant or associate professor), education and experience.
• 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
• Flexible working hours and a good work-life balance.
• 232 vacation hours per year for a full-time position, with the possibility to extend this slightly.
• Additional holidays (such as carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day).
• ABP pension scheme.

The Department Health, Ethics and Society (also known as Metamedica) is dynamic and multidisciplinary in nature, with contributions from a range of medical humanities disciplines, including ethics, law, sociology, anthropology, history, and philosophy. Its central ambition is to contribute to critical reflection on developments in biomedical science and healthcare through education and research, both locally and internationally/global.
