Job description

We are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our team in the Quantum Internet Division at QuTech. Do you have extensive experience with Python? Do you thrive in a diverse and exciting environment? Then this role is for you!

In this role, you will work closely with the research group of Prof Stephanie Wehner (https://qutech.nl/lab/wehner-group/). You will participate in both writing new software, as well as ensuring continued maintenance and higher software standards to enable releases.

This is a unique and exciting challenge, where you will be able to use your knowledge and experience to help create new ground-breaking technology.

To make this happen, your tasks will be to:

  • Co-develop and take ownership of new software tools to support research efforts
  • Perform numerical investigations to support the development of research software
  • Develop software according to processes to deliver high-quality and adhere to best practices.
  • Contribute to the design of QuTech’s Quantum Network Simulator stack (NetQASM, SquidASM, NetSquid, SimulaQron).

You will be part of a cross-functional team and work closely with many researcher within QuTech.You will be sitting at our QuTech office at the heart of the vibrant campus of TU Delft.

Requirements

We’re looking for an enthusiastic, independent colleague with a ‘can do’ attitude. You’re a team player, a strong developer and you are looking to work in a welcoming and dynamic environment at the forefront of research and development. You have a Master Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Physics with a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Software Developer maintaining a large code base.

Furthermore, you have:

  • Strong and demonstrable knowledge of Python programming.
  • Experience in the domain of compilers and operating systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • An EU passport or a valid working permit for at least the next 3 months.

Additionally, any of the points below would also be desirable:

  • Knowledge of C/C++
  • Experience with network programming.
  • Fundamental knowledge of quantum physics.
  • Experience with quantum programming frameworks
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams across different organizations.
  • Experience working on long-term (> 3 years) research projects.
  • Experience in the domain of systems programming and network programming

A European working permit is required to apply.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 1 year.

As a Software Engineer at QuTech you will have a unique role in a dynamic, informal, and fast paced working environment. You will be employed by TU Delft.

You will get:

  • A position for 32 to 38 hours per week (0.8 – 1.0 fte).
  • An employment contract for one year with a view to a permanent position.
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility to work hybrid (home/office).
  • A salary according to the CAO Dutch Universities scale 10 to 11 depending on your working experience (from € 3226 gross to €5929 gross per month based on 38 hours per week), plus 8% vacation allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
  • Up to 41 vacation days per year based on full-time employment.
  • An excellent fringe benefits package (including a pension plan and partially paid parental leave) that you can put together yourself through a flexible choice package.
