Tilburg School of Economics and Management is looking for a lecturer in Supply Chain Management (0.8 FTE) for the Department of Management, location Tilburg, duration of employment contract: Temporary for a maximum of 5 years.

Job description

 

Tilburg University’s Supply Chain Management group in the Department of Management is seeking applications for a lecturer.

Are you passionate about the academic field of supply chain management (SCM)? Are you passionate about transferring your knowledge to the next generation? The Department of Management at Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TISEM), Tilburg University, is looking for enthusiastic colleagues in SCM. 

Your job will entail teaching courses and supervising students.  The SCM group offers courses to several TiSEM’s master programs, mainly to the MSc SCM, as well as to several bachelor programs, including BSc International Business Administration and BSc Business Economics (in Dutch Bedrijfseconomie). In addition, the group is now establishing two new minors: SCM for Global Development and SCM for Sustainability (working titles). Teaching courses involves giving lectures, teaching tutorials and workshops, assessing students, and updating teaching materials. Besides, your job will entail thesis supervision and assessment. Students write a thesis for completion of the bachelor and our master programs.

Both in our courses and in theses supervision, we aim for academic rigor and practical relevance. The majority of our teaching is done in English but for a minority of courses we teach in Dutch. Teaching will be mainly on our campus in Tilburg and only in rare occasions and to a small extent online. Almost all courses are taught by teams of instructors. 

Embedding
You will be embedded in the productive, collegial, and engaged Information and Supply Chain Management (ISCM) Research Group at Tilburg University. The group consists of faculty, lecturers, postdoctoral researchers, and PhD candidates. The ISCM Research Group is a growing high-quality high-impact research group in Tilburg University’s School of Economics and Management span a wide range of research topics and methods. Recently, we have grown substantially in size and in research output, with in particular an outstanding group of junior and mid-career faculty. Our leading faculty publish in premier outlets such as those in the FT50 journal list.  The ISCM Group is part of the Department of Management in the Tilburg School of Economics and Management (TiSEM). TISEM is the largest school of Tilburg University. It benefits from a strong research reputation, for instance exemplified by the recent top-10 ranking in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (“Shanghai Ranking”) for the field of business administration.

Requirements

You are passionate about supply chain management, operations management, and sustainability, and about sharing that passion with young people. You can present to larger audiences in a physical classroom, but you can also coach smaller groups and individual students in smaller settings. You are proficient in the use of digital (teaching) tools. Besides, you can cope with change, collaborate well with colleagues and students, and are always looking for ways to further increase your performance. 

You should have at least a master’s degree or above, preferable a PhD degree, in the fields of supply chain management, operations management, operations research, management science, or a closely related field, from a research university. You should also have recent knowledge about those areas, as well as be skillful in the prevailing quantitative and qualitative research methods in those areas. If you have not obtained a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) yet, you should be willing to receive training and eventually obtain the UTQ while on the job. Candidates who already have a UTQ, have a PhD, and/or are able to teach in Dutch have an advantage.

Both candidates who wish to pursue a fully academic teaching career as well as candidates who wish to pursue a dual career in business and academia are invited to apply.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 5 years.

In addition to attractive secondary employment conditions and an international working environment, we offer a 0.8 FTE position, which may be split into several part-time appointments (0.2 FTE or more). This is a temporary appointment for a maximum of 5 years. The probationary period according to the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities   is 2 months. Starting date by agreement, but as soon as possible. UFO-profiles Teacher 4 or 3 apply. The associated gross salary is based on scale 10 or 11 of the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities conditional on training and level of experience. In addition, there is a holiday allowance (8% of the annual salary, in May), and end-of-year bonus (8.3% of the annual salary, in December). Tilburg University uses a neutral remuneration system for salary scaling that is based on work experience. 

All university employees are covered by the so-called civil servants pension fund (ABP). Researchers from outside the Netherlands may qualify for a tax-free allowance equal to 30% of their taxable salary. The university will apply for such an allowance on their behalf. The university offers very good fringe benefits (it is one of the best non-profit employers in the Netherlands), such as an options model for terms and conditions of employment and excellent reimbursement of moving expenses.
