Job description

As a post-doctoral researcher, you are responsible for the design, planning and execution of experimental research of this research line using newly developed medical microbubbles. You will work closely with a PhD student working on this project, present findings at scientific meetings, and write manuscripts. Together with the PhD student, you will conduct further explore the clinical applications and development of novel microbubbles for on-demand release of drugs and implement these functional microbubbles as a smart multi-functional filler in a broad range of medically relevant materials as filler, coating, or in suspension. The target is to identify different routes to application and pave the road for transfer to possible commercial partners. You will closely collaborate Biomedical Engineering (UMCG), Radiology (UMCG) as well as with private partners such as Bether Encapsulates BV and Polyvation BV.

Requirements

You are a creative and enthusiastic researcher with a PhD-degree in Biomedical Engineering/Biomedical Sciences/Pharmaceutical Sciences or Technical Medicine, preferably with experience in the field of ultrasound imaging and/or acoustic systems/microbubbles. You are a team player with excellent project management skills and extensive “wet lab” experience – including cell/bacterial culture. You have good writing and data visualization skills as evidenced by your publication list. You are interested in translational biomedical research, pre-clinical experiments. Proficiency in one of the following areas is a prerequisite: acoustic imaging, microbubbles, physical chemistry, polymer chemistry. Good social and communicative skills, team spirit, creativity, and intelligence are essential.

The UMCG has a preventive Hepatitis B policy. The UMCG can provide you with the vaccination, should it be required for your position.
In case of specific professions a ‘Certificate of Good Conduct’ is required.

Conditions of employment

You will be appointed for one year (36 hours a week) with the possibility for an extension of another year, starting as soon as possible. Your salary will be a maximum of €5.292,- gross per month (scale 10), depending on your qualifications and relevant experience, based on a full-time appointment. In addition, the UMCG will offer you 8% holiday pay, and 8.3% end-of-year bonus. The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC).
