Role:
As an Assistant Professor in Information Technology Law, you will be exploring one or more of the following or related topics:

You will collaborate with legal researchers, computer scientists, and enthusiastic students, collectively striving to understand and solve challenges that stem from the complex interactions between law and technology. The Maastricht Law and Tech Lab houses researchers with diverse backgrounds and who utilize various methodologies to achieve the common aim of developing innovative solutions to pressing societal issues.

Your teaching activities will consist of your involvement in private law and law and technology courses.

You will conduct innovative and high-quality research, write research proposals, participate in strategic and administrative activities, and teach in our program where students learn about both the law and computer science methods.

You will become part of the Department of Private Law and the Maastricht Law and Tech Lab. The atmosphere is one of academic freedom. You will be able to engage in a variety of other activities both within and beyond the Law Faculty, be they educational, managerial, strategic or extra-curricular. We aim to produce cutting-edge research and to build a creative community of researchers, teachers and students at the intersection of law, technology, data science and knowledge engineering. We aim to analyze how technology and data science interact with law and justice in society, how technology and data science can increase access to law and justice in society, and analyzes the ethical, legal, and social issues arising from technology and data science innovations. Activities are conducted in collaboration between lawyers, data scientists and / or knowledge engineers.

We are seeking applicants with the following skills:

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Law and PhD degree (or having obtained a PhD degree at the time of appointment);
• Experience in collaborating with researchers in computer science, machine learning, or data science (or strong willingness to do so);
• Ability to teach private law courses;
• Ability to teach in English;
• Willingness to learn Dutch;
• Possess a University Teaching Qualification (UTQ) or be prepared to obtain one within two years of appointment;
• A personality characterized by vision and ambition;
• Team player;
• (optional) Geek-friendly.

As Assistant professor at Faculty of Law, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

• Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 11 according to UFO profile assistant professor, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €4332,00 and €5929,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
• An employment contract for a period of 18 months with a scope of 0,8 - 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
• At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
