Job description

We are hiring a postdoc to start as soon as possible, but by April 2024 at the latest. The position is initially funded for two years, with possibility for a two-year extension subject to funding.

Your main responsibilities will be:

In addition to these main responsibilities, you will have time to drive your own research agenda forward and develop your own novel research ideas within the framing of our research group.

Contribution to the supervision of PhD and MSc students, and to teaching at the MSc level, is a possibility, although the main focus of the position is research.

You will be working with Stefan Pfenninger, Associate Professor of Energy System Modelling (see https://www.pfenninger.org/) and join a lively community of internationally renowned interdisciplinary energy researchers in the Department of Engineering Systems and Services. Requirements

We are looking for somebody either with energy, meteorology, or climate domain experience, wanting to go more into programming and scientific software, or somebody with programming and scientific software development focus, wanting to go more into energy-meteorology-climate domain applications.

These are the hard requirements:

  • PhD degree. You must have successfully defended by the starting date.
  • Programming and data analysis. You have demonstrable skills using high-level programming languages like Python, R or Julia. Ideally, you know and have used NetCDF/HDF5 along with the scientific Python software stack.
  • Flair for and interest in data visualisation.
  • Designing, planning, and implementing research projects: your publication record shows that during your PhD you have acquired the skills to be an autonomous researcher.
  • You have very good written and spoken communication skills in English (Dutch is not required).

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.
