Job description

DevOps engineer

As a DevOps engineer, you are jointly responsible for managing various web-based applications and services, seeking the optimal balance between stability, security, and availability. You perform maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and implement improvements. Are you the DevOps engineer who will join our Multidisciplinary Team Hosting & Deployment Services? We offer an excellent collective labor agreement (CAO) and a challenging work environment.
We, as a team, ensure a stable application hosting environment, allowing our colleagues in education and research to provide the best quality to our students and clients. You will become part of a team of five colleagues who are collectively responsible for our application hosting and deployment.

Your new job
Using agile methodologies, you will work in a team of five specialists with whom you share knowledge and collaboratively seek the best solutions for our users' applications and standardize and simplify application deployment and management. Our applications run on both Windows and Linux environments. Many applications operate in our own data centers, but you also support deploying applications in our Azure cloud and the integrations between them. Increasingly, we deploy applications in containers on our own Kubernetes cluster for greater flexibility and reduced management burden. We achieve this through pipelines and automating deployments. You identify repetitive tasks and develop and implement solutions to automate these tasks and enable less experienced users to perform them. You leverage market tools or design solutions as needed to automate these processes.
What we expect from you:
  • Advising users on the most effective platform for their applications;
  • Troubleshooting supported applications;
  • Setting up the production environment for new users and applications after a successful Proof of Concept to manage them;
  • Keeping existing applications stable and monitored, and resolving incidents and disruptions;
  • Implementing upgrades and patches;
  • Monitoring the environment and improving the tooling for it;
  • Automating recurring management tasks

We use version management, pipelines, and scripting for automation. Proficiency in reading, writing, and using pipelines and scripts is essential. Our team also focuses on devising, designing, and implementing innovations and standardizations in our environments to make them more stable, secure, and effective. You will have ample opportunities to develop yourself and stay up-to-date with market developments by attending training and conferences.
At WUR, our applications are intensively used. For example, they support our researchers in conducting groundbreaking research, allowing you to make a significant contribution to our mission: "to explore the potential of nature to improve the quality of life."
