Job description

Join us as a Systems Software Engineer and become a key member of QuTech’ s Stack Team at our cutting-edge research center on the buzzing campus of Delft University of Technology.

The main goal of the Stack Team is to build a high-level, programmable, and automated software control of next-generation quantum networks based on quantum entanglement. This will enable the use of quantum network nodes in real-world telecommunications networks.
In this role, you will be joining a divers and inclusive team of 5 Software Engineers embedded in QuTech’ s wider software and simulations team (~ 20 FTE). You will be working closely with research groups at QuTech’ s Quantum Internet Division.

On daily basis, you will play a key role in designing, implementing and testing the software stack for next-generation quantum networks based on quantum entanglement. This opportunity will bring a new challenge every day and give you the chance to develop yourself and think outside of the box.

What you will be doing:

  • Designing, implementing, and testing of pre-standards quantum network protocols based on academic research proposals.
  • Modifying the design in the face of unexpected research challenges.
  • Being responsible for the software architecture of the networking stack following the Software-Defined Networking (SDN) paradigm.
  • Together with experimentalists you will be designing and participating in experiments to demonstrate successful hardware/software integration and the functionality of the network stack.
  • Being the subject matter expert on networking in the team. You will be the main contact point for other teams in QuTech and its collaborations about network protocols.
  • Communicating network architecture considerations with key stakeholders in QuTech and its collaborations.
