Job description

Are you interested in education and research? This PhD project focuses on medical residents’ career choices, and when & how to support them.

Job Description
Embarking on the journey of medical specialty training is a pivotal moment for graduating medical students. However, this path often presents challenges due to mismatches between individual aspirations and the demands of the healthcare system. We intend to address these challenges through systematic research. By exploring the factors influencing career decisions among young doctors and the unique characteristics of each specialty, we aim to facilitate a smoother transition into specialty training.

A key focus of our efforts is to optimize the selection process for specialty training. Drawing upon evidence-based approaches, we strive to ensure alignment between the preferences of prospective doctors and the requirements and expectations of their chosen specialties. Additionally, we aim to understand how to provide ongoing support to residents, creating an environment conducive to their professional growth.

We invite you to join us in this research, to enhance the choices for and support throughout medical specialty training from the perspectives of different stakeholders. This research is intended to form the basis for an intervention to support residents from the outset and throughout: the selection for specialty training. Selection can be used to match expectations between the applicants and the program and provide a starting point for guidance, to create an environment that fosters learning from the very start.

Requirements
We are looking for a candidate with a (research) master of science (MSc) in education, psychology, health or any related domain, with an interest in educational research.
