Job description

Are you an enthusiastic researcher with knowledge of water quality, soils and agriculture in the Netherlands and Europe? Do you also have knowledge of hydrology and soil processes and leaching and run-off of nutrients to ground and surface water? And do you have good command of both Dutch and English? Then we are looking for you!

We are looking for a researcher water quality with knowledge of the interaction between agriculture and water quality. You should have experience with research in the fields of hydrology and soil, and leaching and run-off of nutrients to ground and surface water and effects on the water and nutrient balances of regional surface waters. We also ask for experience with model development and model application and an affinity with data processing. You enjoy working in a team and are able to publish research results in (popular) scientific journals and translate them into clear insights for agricultural and environmental policy. Good communication skills are important.

Requirements

  • Good communication skills and good command of both Dutch (B2) and English (C1), written and oral.
  • Relevant academic education in hydrology, soil science, environmental science or similar
  • Experience in applied research in the field of agriculture and the environment, or a PhD.
  • Knowledge of the interaction between agriculture, soil, water management and water quality.
  • Analytical mindset
  • Experience with model development and model application and affinity with data processing

In addition to these first-rate employee benefits, you will of course receive a good salary. We offer, depending on your experience, a competitive gross salary of between €3,088,- and €5,737,- for a full-time working week of 36 hours, in accordance with the CLA Wageningen Research (scale 10-11). Additionally, a contract for 32 hours can be discussed. You will initially receive a one-year contract, which will be extended to an open-ended contract upon in mutual enthusiasm.

The mission of the Sustainable Soil Use team is to contribute to sustainable soil use and good soil quality, thereby ensuring efficient use of resources, mitigating climate change, and reducing nutrient losses in agriculture. In this way, we contribute to sustainable agricultural production and improved soil, water, and air quality. We conduct applied and integrated research on soil quality, circular agriculture, nitrogen and nature, climate and greenhouse gas emissions, and water quality. Knowledge of soil chemistry, soil physics, and agriculture forms the basis of our work. We operate from the laboratory scale to the global scale for a broad group of (inter)national clients. Sustainable Soil Use is a dynamic team with both experienced staff and a large group of young researchers.
