Job description

The teaching of anatomy and physiology is part of practically all organ system and theme oriented teaching blocks in the Bachelor's programme of Veterinary Medicine. In the Master's programme of Veterinary Medicine, the department is responsible for in-depth practicals. In addition, Anatomy & Physiology lecturers teach at University College Utrecht, the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences, the Faculty of Geosciences, and in the new Bachelor's programme Care, Health and Society.

Your job
As lecturer, you will hold an independent position in the Divison of Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. Your range of duties will broad, as it will include the following:
  • Teaching lectures, tutorials and practicals on anatomy and physiology in the veterinary medicine Bachelor's and Master's programmes.
  • Participating in innovative educational projects, such as projects on blended learning and virtual reality.
  • Supervising simulations, self-studies and practical assignments.
  • Preparing and correct exams.
  • Evaluating parts of the curriculum and make adjustments.
  • Participating in small-scale workgroup teaching.
  • Developing teaching material and possibly getting involved with an innovation of education research project using innovative technology and approaches.
  • Developing your research project in line with the strategic plans of A&P and the faculty. We will make sure to organise the combination of education and research in the best possible way.

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to use plastinated material for your teaching from a collection of over 3,000 items, but you will also have the opportunity to work with innovative teaching technologies such as virtual reality. You will also be involved in education for professionals, along with your colleagues from the Department of Clinical Sciences.

Requirements

You are a recent veterinary or (bio)medical graduate, preferentially with a completed or almost completed PhD. You have demonstrable affinity for the fields of anatomy and physiology. You can work well independently, have new ideas, are critical but able to connect with other disciplines within and outside the faculty regarding the topic of applied anatomy and possibly related research projects. Furthermore:
  • you have excellent communication skills;
  • you have a positive (working) attitude and good social skills;
  • you are energetic, enthusiastic and motivated for the job and you are a team player;
  • you are interested in both teaching and research, as a personal research project is part of this position;
  • you have a good command of English, both verbally and in writing and you are willing to learn Dutch.

Conditions of employment

We offer:

  • a position for one year, with the possibility of an extension;
  • a working week of 32 to 40 hours and a gross monthly salary between €3,226 and €5,090 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 10 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.
