Job description

The Department of Data Science and Biostatistics at the University Medical Center Utrecht is looking for a statistician with experience in applying causal inference methodology in the analysis of large-scale observational datasets. In this position you work together with epidemiologists, medical researchers, and scientific programmers on the design and analysis of diverse research projects, typically involving the analysis of real-world health data. These research projects often focus on the study of safety of medicines and are often conducted for regulatory purposes for the European Medicines Agency and pharmaceutical companies; the projects involve distributed analysis of sensitive health data using a common data model for the purposes of causal inference.

Familiarity with key concepts in target trial emulation and a strong basis in modern causal inference methods are central to this position. You will actively contribute to causal inference methodology in design of studies, write/review statistical analysis plans, and develop/launch analysis scripts. Experience in statistical programming and an affinity with clinical research is expected. You will also contribute to the teaching activities of the department and contribute to the research and development of methodological and statistical tools.

Requirements

The successful candidate is an experienced statistician who shows initiative and has a broad interest in, and academic qualities for, the field of medical statistics and epidemiology. You preferably have a PhD in Statistics, Biostatistics, (Pharmaco)Epidemiology or Public Health with a strong affinity towards methodology and statistics, or a related field, and have experience in statistical programming, consultation, teaching, and working in multi-disciplinary teams. You are proficient with R, git and Github. Ability to communicate statistical ideas to non-specialists is a must. Experience working with real-world data and in large and diverse team environments is a plus. Written and spoken fluency in English is required.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (36 - 36 hours) is € 6.402,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).

The department of Data Science and Biostatistics focuses its research and main projects on Health Data Science, Clinical trial Methodology and Real-World Evidence (RWE), further more it has a large datamanagement and education team. It has an academic staff of about 23 statisticians, 6 senior epidemiologists and continuously around 8 PhD students on research projects. The RWE group is a dynamic, fast-paced, multi-cultural environment, made up of researchers including epidemiologists, data engineers and statisticians. We execute large-scale research projects in close collaboration with research networks and with international experts from different institutions.
