Job description

The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science seeks a lab manager to work full-time (1.0 FTE) in the joint Computer Science lab. The joint lab brings together different experimental laboratories of five computer science clusters. These labs accommodate research- and education-related activities in Digital Twining, Software Engineering, Internet of Things Security, Robotics, Virtual Reality, Verification of Cyber-Physical Systems, and Programmable and Wireless Networks. 

The candidate will be embedded at the Interconnected Resource-aware Intelligent Systems cluster at TU/e and collaborate with clusters ALGO (Algorithms), FSA (Formal System Analysis), IRIS (Interconnected Resource-aware Intelligent Systems), SEC (Security), and SET (Software Engineering and Technology).

Responsibilities
  • Assure that the lab's safety and security measures are enforced.
  • Monitor and report lab status and performance and proactively act on (foreseen) issues affecting its functionality and availability.
  • Maintain a lab equipment inventory comprehensive of both technical (system, network) and non-technical (function/purpose of system, specific requirements, ...) aspects of its components.
  • Maintain inventory of hardware items and software tools issued to users for use and experimentation within the lab and check that the equipment is safely and adequately used.
  • Maintain active communication channels with TU/e infrastructure services (LIS) related to the operation of the lab, its continuity, and requirements.
  • Install/update/configure software on heterogeneous devices running on different architectures in the lab.
  • Provide support to students and staff in using and updating the lab infrastructure and software.
  • Provide suggestions about expansion and use of the infrastructure hardware and software tools to improve the performance and efficiency.
  • Help staff set up demos.
  • Support staff in the management of the lab for visits by external entities (research visitors and guests, companies, government, ...).

Requirements

  • Master's degree or an Engineering Doctorate (EngD) in computer science or electrical engineering;
  • Multi-year experience with running and maintaining IT infrastructures.
  • Experience with software engineering and development of software stack, running private-cloud. environments as well as multiple OSs, e.g., Windows, Linux, iOS, as well as other OSs for embedded and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
  • Knowledge and practice of programming languages such as Java and C, as well as scripting languages like Bash and Python.
  • Good knowledge of network and application protocols and tools for shared network management. Knowledge of standards and regulations for safe management and disposal of hardware.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

In addition, we offer you:
  • The position is classified in scale 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, with a salary ranging from a minimum of € 3.345,- to a maximum of € 5.278,- gross per month based on a full-time appointment.
  • An end-of-year bonus equivalent to 8.3% of the annual salary (comparable to a monthly salary) and a holiday allowance equivalent to 8% of the yearly salary.
