Software Engineer

Our mission is to develop scalable quantum processors based on our unique germanium semiconductor technology. In your role, you will contribute to this goal by developing software solutions and creating the tools that lie at the heart of our full-stack quantum computers. These tools focus on design and validation of processor design, efficient qubit measurement, i.e. the automation of tuning and device characterization, and on the integration of our full-stack quantum computer up to a cQASM level, i.e. gate decomposition, optimization and mapping.

As a software engineer, you will collaborate closely with our quantum engineers, that work on device fabrication, measurements, and system integration. This will give you the opportunity to collaborate on cutting-edge projects and develop the tools that are needed to scale quantum computers.

Your daily responsibilities will be:

• Designing, implementing, and maintaining tooling software, consisting of several components, for processing quantum algorithms, tailored to meet measurement needs.
• Developing, maintaining, and testing of the code base, ensuring quality through unit and integration testing and bringing improvements through controlled updates.

The envisaged timeframe for our startup to become an independent QuTech spinoff is approximately a year. During this period, we expect to grow our technical team beyond ten driven researchers and engineers. • We are looking for a software engineer with a master’s degree and ideally a PhD thinking level in applied mathematics or physics. For this role an extensive experience in Python-based software development (minimum 3-5 years) is a must.
  
  
• Additional skills we seek include:
  • Experience in designing and developing production-grade software.
  • Proficient understanding of quantum computing fundamentals, such as qubit state, quantum gates, circuit model, and quantum computer architecture.
  • Knowledge of general concepts regarding the processing of programming languages, e.g., language parsers, ASTs, and compilers (3 years +).
  • Experience with programming environments on Unix/Linux, including macOS.
  • On top of skills, we are also looking for and independent and a hands-on software engineer who thrives in collaborative environments and enjoys working effectively with researchers.

As a Software Engineer, you will receive a 1-year TU Delft contract with a potential for extension. Because we are reaching out to a large target audience, we will offer 2 different scales: Scale 10 (€3226 gross to €5090 gross) for junior to mid-senior candidates and Scale 11 (€4332 gross to €5929 gross) for senior candidates both based on 38h per workweek. This range reflects our commitment to supporting professionals at different stages of their careers and offering competitive compensation. On top of that we also offer:

• A Duration of contract of 12 months with prospect for extension.
• A job of 32 to 38 hours per week.
• An excellent pension scheme via the ABP.
• The possibility to compile an individual employment package every year.
• Flexible working week.
• Every year, 232 leave hours (at 38 hours). You can also sell or buy additional leave hours via the individual choice budget.

From 1 September next, a salary increase of 3.7% applies due to a Collective Agreement amendment, followed by an additional 1% increase on 1 January 2025. In addition, most employees employed on 1 September 2024 will receive a one-off payment of €300 gross based on full-time employment.
