Job description

Come join QuTech and create the Quantum Future!

Job Description
At QuTech, we are actively looking for a principal investigator to help our efforts towards building the next generation of quantum technology based on innovative materials. Do you have an interest in new superconductors, semiconductors or hybrids that may drive the development of new or existing qubits? Do you have aspirations towards developing new platforms for photonic or electronic integration of quantum devices? Looking for an innovative, inspiring and passionate place to work at? Look no further!

The candidate’s research program is expected to contribute to the general aim of the Qubit Research Division or the Quantum Internet Division within QuTech. In the Qubit Research Division we work on developing novel qubits that are protected from noise by design. Our mission is to understand, develop and demonstrate qubits that outperform established technology. In the Quantum Internet Division, our goal is to develop technologies to enable quantum networks for communication and computation.

Requirements
A successful candidate should have experience in developing materials for quantum as an experimental scientist and should synergize with and complement the research topics of QuTech. The candidate should have a successful scientific track record and formulate an independent research program addressing current scientific and technological challenges.

Possible research topics of a successful candidate could be (but are not limited to):
  • New superconductors or superconducting processes for qubit platforms
  • Integration of semiconductors and superconducting materials for hybrid qubits
  • Development of qubit architectures using topological quantum materials
  • Novel or improved materials for quantum photonics
  • Materials hosting quantum emitters for photonic interfaces
  • Any other topic that uses a novel approach to material science to spearhead new quantum technologies

In terms of skills and personality, we are looking for a colleague who is passionate, commited and respectful. You will find below some of the skills we value very much at QuTech:

Candidates interested in teaching can contribute to courses offered by the university both at the undergraduate and at the graduate level.

The successful candidate will be part of this vibrant research community and can expect a competitive start-up package to enable a quick start of their research program.

TU Delft
At QuTech (a collaboration between TU Delft and TNO) over 300 scientists and engineers work together to develop scalable prototypes of quantum computers and a quantum internet, in a highly interdisciplinary environment. Together with the Departments of Bionanoscience (BN) and Quantum Nanoscience (QN), QuTech constitutes the Kavli Institute of Nanoscience at Delft, creating further collaboration opportunities. Our research and engineering activities are conducted in three divisions: Quantum Computing, Quantum Internet and Qubit Research.

Delft University of Technology is built on strong foundations. As creators of the world-famous Dutch waterworks and pioneers in biotech, TU Delft is a top international university combining science, engineering and design. It delivers world class results in education, research and innovation to address challenges in the areas of energy, climate, mobility, health and digital society. For generations, our engineers have proven to be entrepreneurial problem-solvers, both in business and in a social context.

At TU Delft we embrace diversity as one of our core values and we actively engage to be a university where you feel at home and can flourish. We value different perspectives and qualities. We believe this makes our work more innovative, the TU Delft community more vibrant and the world more just.
