Job description
The Department of Advanced Computing Systems (DACS) at Maastricht University is looking for a new colleague supporting our cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, embedded and robotic systems. AI-powered computer vision plays a central role in enabling next generation autonomous robotic systems and smart embedded solutions. Many autonomous robotic and embedded systems solutions thrive from powerful computer vision technology enabling applications such as autonomous flight control of drones and robotic object manipulation, intelligent human-computer interaction (e.g. through extended reality), and smart embedded sensing. These technologies are paramount for addressing urgent societal challenges in areas such as intelligent manufacturing, healthcare and agriculture. To strengthen our research initiatives in these areas, we are looking for a team player. As an assistant professor, you will also be active in acquiring research funding and in supporting fellow junior researchers.

In addition to your research, you will contribute to our top-rated education. Our department offers two bachelor programs and two master programs in the fields of AI and Data Science. You will be spending about 50% of your time on research and 50% on education.

Requirements
We are looking for a colleague who is passionate about research and who enjoys teaching. You feel at home in a strongly international and diverse community like ours. Furthermore, we are looking to welcome a colleague who fosters collaboration at all levels.

Our ideal candidate has:

• A PhD degree in Computer Vision or a strongly related field;
• Experience in robotic or embedded systems;
• Preferably at least 2 years working experience in an academic environment post-PhD;
• Effective communication skills in English;
• Experience with funding acquisition at national and European level;

What we offer
As an Assistant Professor at Faculty of Science & Engineering, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

• Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 11 - 12 according to UFO profile Assistant Professor, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €4492,00 and €6986,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
• An employment contract for a period of 18 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
• At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
