Job description

Do you have an interest in the European Green Transition? Do you have experience using data from the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS)? We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in a newly EU-funded project involving 30 other partners. This position is particularly well suited for people who have an excellent knowledge of European survey data (including GGS, ESS, SHARE, EVS) and who are interested in linking data and policies.

This is a 3-year position (with an initial 12 month appointment). We are looking for a senior post-doc (4 to 7 years since the PhD) with an excellent knowledge of the GGS (or a similar survey).

What you will be doing

The project

This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the juncture of data and policy, to expand your international exposure and to gain valuable skills in leading a Work Package. Moreover, the position being embedded in the GGP and Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI), it offers opportunities to work in a scientific environment and to further develop your own research on a topic related to the themes of the project.

The position is part of the anticipated EU-funded SoGreen project. The aim is to provide insights into the social aspects of the Green Transition using survey data from the four leading social science infrastructures in Europe (ESS-ERIC, SHARE-ERIC, GGP and GUIDE). This will be done using existing data as well as new data to be collected during the course of the project. SoGreen will use a life course, multi-generational and gender perspective.

This project is coordinated by the Survey of Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE-ERIC) in collaboration with the Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) and other research infrastructures and partners. This postdoctoral position will be part of the contribution of the GGP to the project.

The GGP postdoctoral researcher will work closely with the other partners in the project. In addition, it will co-lead the Work Package on the development of the Green module (to be included in the online ESS CRONOS panel and in other project surveys), and the Work Package on the life course dimension of the Green Transition. These tasks will require leadership and coordination to make sure that the work is delivered on time. In addition the postdoctoral fellow will be expected to contribute to disseminating the findings of the project to both scientific and non-scientific audience.

What do we offer
We offer a postdoctoral research position embedded in the Data Infrastructure and Dissemination working group at NIDI. This position is well tailored for those who want to work in a research environment but without the ‘publish or perish’ requirement. Instead this is an opportunity to develop your international network and to work with colleagues also devoted to building an excellent research infrastructure and related services.

The starting date for this position is 1 January 2025. In exceptional circumstances, we may consider an earlier start date. The appointment will be for a period of 12 months. It may be extended up to a total maximum of three years (which is the duration of the SoGreen project) based on performance.
