Do you have an interest in the European Green Transition? Do you have experience using data from the Generations and Gender Survey (GGS)? We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to work in a newly EU-funded project involving 30 other partners. This position is particularly well suited for people who have an excellent knowledge of European survey data (including GGS, ESS, SHARE, EVS) and who are interested in linking data and policies.

This is a 3-year position (with an initial 12 month appointment). We are looking for a senior post-doc (4 to 7 years since the PhD) with an excellent knowledge of the GGS (or a similar survey).

The position
The GGP postdoctoral researcher will work closely with the other partners in the project. In addition, it will co-lead the Work Package on the development of the Green module (to be included in the online ESS CRONOS panel and in other project surveys), and the Work Package on the life course dimension of the Green Transition. These tasks will require leadership and coordination to make sure that the work is delivered on time. In addition the postdoctoral fellow will be expected to contribute to disseminating the findings of the project to both scientific and non-scientific audience.

The position is part of the anticipated EU-funded SoGreen project. The aim is to provide insights into the social aspects of the Green Transition using survey data from the four leading social science infrastructures in Europe (ESS-ERIC, SHARE-ERIC, GGP and GUIDE). This will be done using existing data as well as new data to be collected during the course of the project. SoGreen will use a life course, multi-generational and gender perspective.

This project is coordinated by the Survey of Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE-ERIC) in collaboration with the Generations and Gender Programme (GGP) and other research infrastructures and partners. This postdoctoral position will be part of the contribution of the GGP to the project.

What you will be bringing

As the representative of the GGP in the SoGreen project, you will bring a knowledge of European survey data and the ability to link them with policies.

You completed a PhD in sociology, demography, political science or other relevant discipline in the past 7 years and you possess an excellent knowledge of European survey data (such as GGS, ESS, EVS or SHARE). You have excellent communication skills including the ability to work in a team. Ideally you also have prior experience in dissemination and networking activities and in working in an externally funded project. It is also necessary to have an excellent command of the English language, both written and oral, as this project’s main language is English.

Note that we are looking for candidates who completed their PhD 4 to 7 years ago. Candidates who more recently completed their PhD are eligible but would need to demonstrate that they meet the other criteria, including having the capability to lead a Work Package.

Fixed-term contract: 1 (+2) years.

Terms of employment

Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is between € 4,020 and the maximum salary is € 6,148 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 10 or 11 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

The KNAW offers its staff an excellent package of secondary benefits. A package that meets the different needs of employees depending on their stage of life, lifestyle or career ambitions. For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).

Non Dutch applicants are required to relocate to The Netherlands. If and when necessary, NIDI will apply for the residence permit. Non Dutch employees may qualify for a Tax break (30% Ruling).

NIDI

The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) is a leading European demographic research institute. NIDI is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and affiliated with the University of Groningen.
