Job description

Who we are
PREMIUM_EU is a project financed by HORIZON EUROPE, involving 10 research institutes across Europe, and coordinated by NIDI-KNAW. The project tries to answer the question in what way European migration (mobility) can boost development of left-behind regions. The research activities cover advanced research in regional migration estimation and projections, regional development analysis, and regional policies.

What you’ll do
We are looking for two student assistants / junior researchers (0.4 fte) to carry out interviews with Turkish and Polish migrants in the Netherlands within the European funded project PREMIUM_EU. We are looking for one interviewer for 20 Turkish migrant interviews, and one interviewer for 20 Polish migrant interviews.

The activities involve:
  • Preparation
  • Training
  • Pilot interviews (supervised by the fieldwork coordinator)
  • Conducting the interviews
  • Transcribing (aided by AI technology)
  • Coding

Requirements

What we expect from you
  • You should be fluent in Turkish and/or Polish respectively and have good knowledge in either Dutch or English
  • You should have experience with qualitative research in social science, preferably also with research among migrants
  • You should be able to conduct the interviews in the Northern part of the Netherlands

The work should be planned in the period of February to April 2025, for two days a week (25 days in total).

Fixed-term contract: 25 workdays.

The Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute (NIDI) is a leading European demographic research institute. NIDI is part of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and affiliated with the University of Groningen. It is located in the center of The Hague providing a unique and stimulating research environment in the broad field of population studies. Terms of employment
Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is € 2.715 and the maximum salary is € 2.951 gross per month for a full-time appointment ((scale SA) cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.

For example, by working an extra two hours a week, it is possible to increase the number of days off from 29 to 41 days a year (with full-time employment).
