Job description
The Department of Advanced Computing Systems (DACS) at Maastricht University is looking for a new colleague supporting our cutting-edge research in artificial intelligence, embedded systems, human-computer and human-robot interfaces. AI-powered wearable technologies such as wearable sensors, smart glasses (e.g. for extended reality), and wearable robots play a central role in addressing urgent societal challenges in areas such as smart manufacturing, logistics, agriculture and healthcare. To strengthen our research initiatives in these areas, we are looking for a team player. As an assistant professor, you will also be active in acquiring research funding and in supporting fellow junior researchers.

In addition to your research, you will contribute to our top-rated education. Our department offers two bachelor programs and two master programs in the fields of AI, Data Science, and Computer Science. You will be spending about 50% of your time on research and 50% on education. As a member of our team you will operate at Maastricht University in Maastricht and at the Brightlands Smart Service Campus in Heerlen.

Requirements

Our ideal candidate has:
  • A PhD degree in Wearable Technologies, Immersive Technologies, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or a strongly related field;
  • Preferably at least 2 years working experience in an academic environment post-PhD;
  • Effective communication skills in English;
  • Experience with funding acquisition at national and European level.

What we offer
As an Assistant Professor in Wearable Technologie
at the Faculty of Science & Engineering, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:
  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 11 - 12 according to UFO profile Assistant Professor, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €4492,00 and €6986,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period of 18 months with a scope of 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
