A research assistant position that focuses on using bioinformatics and spatially resolved omics technologies to study pathological processes in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Job description

A 1 year research assistant position, with the possibility of extension to a full PhD. Your research will conduct detailed spatial omics profiling of postmortem tissue donated by patients afflicted by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Your task will be to establish bioinformatic pipelines for data analysis, and in particular to assist in developing methods for relating spatial measures of molecular targets in patient tissue to genetic risk. As well as data analysis, you will also work to support data generation and quality control within the project.

Requirements

We look for an MSc graduate with strong communication skills, a keen interest in pursuing a career in academic research and demonstrable prior experience in research relating to bioinformatics, genetics, spatial clustering analyses and neurodegenerative disease.
  • You have a MSc in bioinformatics.
  • You have a demonstrable track record of high performance in research internships, or other research activities, that involved notable work in bioinformatics, genetics, spatial biology and neurodegenerative disease.
  • You have strong communication skills, in particular with regards scientific presentations and academic writing.

Conditions of employment

The maximum salary for this position (36 - 36 hours) is € 4.429,00 gross per month based on full-time employment.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).

Department

The project will be performed in the department of Translational Neuroscience at the UMC Utrecht. You will work closely with collaborators in the department of neurology, as well as with partners at Amsterdam Medical Center. You will also be embedded within the ALS centre of the Netherlands, a world leading and highly multi-disciplinary unit dedicated to the advancement of ALS research.
