We are searching for a Research technician Cardiovascular Diseases with experience in biochemical and cell biological assays.

Job description

Your job will be to perform laboratory experiments in one the research teams of the department of Physiology at Amsterdam UMC. Our research groups use state-of-the-art physiological and imaging setups, animal models, stem cell-derived (3D) models, and human tissues to study structure/function relationships in different organs, focused on the pathophysiology and molecular basis of cardiovascular and metabolic disease.

In addition, you will be responsible for more general tasks, matching your technical and organizational skills. You will also be part of a team of > 15 technicians that plays a key role in the day-to-day research of the department, the development and preservation of knowledge and skills, and the organization of the laboratories.

As a research technician your responsibilities are to:
  • Work in close collaboration with the members of your own research team and with the other research teams of the department;
  • Establish and perform cell culture, cell biology, functional and biochemical experiments;
  • Contribute to training of Bachelor, Master and PhD students;
  • Coordinate and manage the laboratories of the department of Physiology together with colleagues (technicians and staff members).

Requirements

We are looking for a research technician with the following experience:
  • HLO degree or equivalent education;
  • Knowledge and experience with biochemical and cell biological assays;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated;
  • Pro-active and independent with good analytical skills;
  • Team player with strong communicational skills.

  • Salary scale 7M: € 2,975 to € 4,214 gross for full-time employment (depending on education and experience). You will also receive 8.3% end-of-year bonus and 8% vacation allowance. Calculate your net salary here.
  • In addition to a good basic salary, we offer a year-end bonus of 8.3% and 8% vacation allowance.
  • Pension accrual with ABP, of which we pay 70% of the premium.
  • You will receive 100% public transport allowance if you travel 7 km or more one way and €0.18 per km up to a maximum of 40 km one way if you travel yourself. Prefer to walk or bike? Then take advantage of our good-bike scheme.
  • An active staff association and Young Amsterdam UMC association, both of which organize fun (sports) activities and events.

The Department of Physiology at Amsterdam UMC, located at both VUmc as well as AMC, performs research in the areas of physiology, structure and function of the heart, skeletal muscle and blood vessels. The department is embedded in the Amsterdam Cardiovascular Sciences (ACS) research institute of Amsterdam UMC and in the Amsterdam Heart Center (division 3).
