Job description
The project aims to develop a new operando tool (operando = under catalysts’ working conditions) for studying catalytic reactions using IR emission spectroscopy, opening up new opportunities in the field of heterogeneous catalysis and studying solid-fluid interfaces. Complementary spectroscopic techniques, including mid-IR, far-IR, Raman, UV-Vis, and X-ray-based spectroscopies, will be employed to gain a holistic picture of the catalytic active sites and species.

Requirements
The ideal candidate:
  • has a master's degree in chemistry, physical chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, physics and/or related area.
  • is a highly motivated and an enthusiastic researcher, with a keen interest in catalysis. Experience with in situ/operando spectroscopy/methodologies such as vibrational spectroscopy is a plus.
  • is a strong experimentalist with a competent analytical and programming skills (or strong interest in data science).
  • is fluent in English, has good communicative/reporting skills, and a team worker.
  • is available ASAP

Conditions of employment
Doctoral candidates will be offered a 4-year period of employment in principle, but in the form of 2 employment contracts. An initial 1,5 year contract with an official go/no go progress assessment within 15 months. Followed by an additional contract for the remaining 2,5 years assuming everything goes well and performance requirements are met.

Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, increasing from € 2872 per month in the first year to € 3670 in the fourth year. As a PhD candidate you will be enrolled in the TU Delft Graduate School. The TU Delft Graduate School provides an inspiring research environment with an excellent team of supervisors, academic staff and a mentor. The Doctoral Education Programme is aimed at developing your transferable, discipline-related and research skills.
