Are you inspired by interactions between different fields of mathematics?
This PhD will give you a theoretical background in geometry and algebra and their application to dynamics and number theory. You will have regular teaching duties to build your communication skills, as well as opportunities to engage in real-world problems.
This PhD is in the
Discrete Algebra and Geometry group, where your primary advisor will be
Samantha Fairchild. Recommended theoretical projects focus on the study of translation surfaces and their moduli from the perspective of geometry, dynamics, number theory, or algebra. In addition, using tools from the theoretical projects you will have the opportunity to engage in real-world problems. The position also includes the opportunity to develop teaching skills as a teaching assistant.
