The Department of the Built Environment at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) invites applications for a full professor position (0.8-1.0 FTE) in Structural Design of Concrete Structures in the disciplinary unit Structural Engineering and Design (SED). The focus is on buildings and infrastructure at an urban scale.
The Research Group Concrete StructuresConcrete Structures is one out of four research groups in the unit SED, next to the groups of Applied Mechanics, Steel and Aluminium Structures, and Sustainable Structural Design. The concrete group's research lines consist of
3D Concrete Printing (3DCP) and Sustainment of Concrete Structures, with a shared/common interest on sustainability.
The Concrete Structures group at TU/e is highly interdisciplinary, combining principles of materials science, structural engineering, and advanced manufacturing technologies. Both research lines are dedicated to pushing the boundaries of structural engineering through cutting-edge research and collaboration with industry partners, striving to develop sustainable, efficient, and resilient concrete structures for the future. The research activities are supported by the SED laboratory, equipped to test structural elements, components, and large scale systems under different conditions, and houses large- and small-scale robotic facilities and 3D printers.
Our way of working is systemic, integrating research on innovative design methods, manufacturing techniques and material development. Far-reaching innovation is our goal to accelerate a transition towards higher construction productivity and a lower environmental footprint.
The newly appointed professor of Structural Design of Concrete Structures will lead the research group and professionally holds a strong CV on structural design of concrete structures. We expect the newly appointed professor to initiate cross-over collaborations with other research groups in the unit of SED and with the other units in the department acting in the disciplines of architecture, building physics, building information modelling, materials and urbanism as well as with impactful industrial partners.
Our expectationsAs a full professor, you hold a strong profile in research. You initiate new research ideas, based on the profile of the research group, and you write research proposals to acquire (inter)national funding, with support of the research group and the departmental research support team. You coach the members of the research group in writing research proposals. You supervise master and PhD students in the position of chair of a master graduation supervision committee and in the position of promotor, respectively.
You also have an outstanding education vision, that connects scientific research with education. You will teach in both our bachelor and master programs and collaborate with your colleagues in teaching innovations, including challenge based learning and blended learning. You will (co-)develop, teach, and coordinate courses and projects in English. The candidate is expected to be an excellent and inspiring teacher and, as for all permanent staff members, has already obtained, or will obtain, the university teaching qualification (UTQ).
And you participate in, or encourage activities for, demonstrating the impact of newly developed technology or other initiatives related to bridging the gap from academia to industry, including support of entrepreneurship, like start-ups coming from your own students.
Finally, we expect leadership skills. For us this means taking responsibility for your own tasks and those of your research group, taking your role in supervising students and assisting/supporting colleagues, and participating in managerial tasks of the department.
