Your job
Supervise and mentor PhD candidates and/or MSc students in their research. You will work with real-world data (RWD) to address critical questions about the safety and effectiveness of medicines and the impact of regulatory decisions on public health. The research mainly focusses on post-marketing safety studies or intervention impacts. Your contributions will help shape the future of pharmacoepidemiology and its role in advancing healthcare. In this role, you will:
  • research the application and evaluation of pharmacoepidemiologic methods to generate evidence on effectiveness and safety of medicines, including measuring impact of regulatory decisions on public health;
  • contribute and support ongoing research projects and collaborations with external partners;
  • supervise and mentor PhD candidates and MSc students in their research;
  • coordinate and teach in real-world evidence related courses on pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacotherapy, and medication policy for the Bachelor's and Master's programmes in Pharmaceutical Sciences (taught in Dutch) and the Pharmacoepidemiology Summer Programme (taught in English).

Requirements

We are seeking a candidate with a passion for pharmacoepidemiology and a strong interest in real-world data (RWD) studies. You have a proactive attitude, a drive for personal and professional growth, and the ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Besides that, you have:
  • a PhD in (bio)medical sciences, (bio)statistics, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related field, with demonstrated experience working with real-world data, such as electronic medical records, claims, or registry data;
  • a proven track record of scientific creativity and productivity, evidenced by recent publications in international, peer-reviewed journals;
  • experience in and enthusiasm for teaching and coordinating academic courses, with experience in supervising MSc students;
  • excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English;
  • an efficient and driven work ethic, with a passion for advancing the field and making an impactful contribution to healthcare.

Conditions of employment

We offer:
  • a position for two years;
  • a working week of 38 hours and a gross monthly salary between €3,345 and €5,278 in the case of full-time employment (salary scale 10 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.

The Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS) is the research institute of the department of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Utrecht University. UIPS focuses on processes around discovery, development, and use of drugs and medical nutrition using molecular and technological principles from the Natural and Life Sciences. This research translates new findings into potential solutions to urgent societal medical needs, which are addressed in the Faculties of Medicine and Veterinary Medicine. Every year around 400 peer-reviewed articles are published and around 30 PhD candidates defend their thesis.

You will be employed in the division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology. It consists of a multidisciplinary team of young and internationally oriented researchers. The research programme is directed at several epidemiological, therapeutic, and policy aspects of chronic drug use with a focus on advanced affordable biomolecular and cellular therapies.

The Centre for Pharmacoepidemiology is embedded in the division of Pharmacoepidemiology and Clinical Pharmacology. The centre aims to apply, develop, improve, and evaluate innovative observational pharmacoepidemiologic methods to obtain reliable information on benefits and harms of medicines after marketing in real life.
