About the position
The University of Amsterdam (UvA) is looking for an Advisor Research Funding to help researchers apply for research funding. You will be embedded in the UvA central grant advice team of 10 advisors research funding at Innovation Exchange Amsterdam (IXA), UvA-HvA office.

This is what you will be doing
You will be responsible for stimulating researchers to apply for funding and for finding suitable funding opportunities for researchers, in different stages of their research career. You will think with faculty or institute management on their research funding strategy. You will support researchers in the full process of grant applications (pre-award), from identifying a suitable program and call, to advising on the structure of the application and commenting on draft versions of the grant application. You will do early intakes with researchers on their ideas, coordinate peer review and assist and relieve researchers in the application process.

Other tasks are to proactively inform researchers and research units on opportunities and to organize and coordinate information sessions about funding schemes and procedures. You will also give training and workshops and organize and coordinate interview training. You will coordinate your activities with the faculty support and research management. Finally, you will work together with the other IXA experts. You have no post-award tasks.

The new grant advisor will advise on both individual and consortium grants, National and EU funding. Individual grants are for example applications to the Dutch Talent Programme and ERC applications. Consortium grants are for example applications to Horizon Europe pillar 2 and to the Dutch NWA and KIC programmes. The new advisor should be comfortable with and like it to advise on a broad variety of grant schemes.

Each advisor in the team works for more than 1 research institute. Together, the grant advisors are responsible for providing the support to researchers in all UvA faculties, apart from Dentistry and Medicine. We value working as a team and helping each other. We expect the support you give will be for a little more than half of your time in the Faculty of Humanities, including contributing to the faculty funding strategy. The other part will be in the other SSH Faculties. The exact content of the position can to some extent be determined by the candidate’s profile and preferences.

This is what we ask of you
We expect you to:
  • have an academic professional and intellectual level (preferably a PhD);
  • have affinity with social science and humanities research;
  • have proven knowledge and multiple years of experience in supporting and advising researchers, research groups, institutes and faculties in all aspects of research grant applications, both in personal grants and in consortium grants. Experience with Horizon Europe pillar 2, NWA and/or KIC applications is an advantage;
  • be service- and result-oriented;
  • be able to handle multiple projects at once on a tight deadline;
  • be able to work independently and as part of a team;
  • have excellent oral and written communication skills, in Dutch and English.

This is what we offer you
The appointment is for a period of 1 year. Upon positive evaluation and satisfactory performance, the appointment will be converted into an appointment with a permanent contract. The appointment is for 32-38 hours per week.

The function description is that of Employee Knowledge Valorisation (Dutch: Medewerker Kennisvalorisatie) 3 or 2. The gross monthly salary will range from € 4,492,- up to a maximum of € 6,986,- (salary scale 11 or 12) for a full-time appointment (38 hours per week) and will be based on qualifications, expertise and relevant experience. This sum does not include the 8% holiday allowance and the 8.3% year-end allowance. The Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) is applicable.

IXA is a cooperation of the Knowledge Transfer Offices of University of Amsterdam, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, Amsterdam University Medical Centre and VU Amsterdam. IXA UvA-HvA office is the central service department for UvA and HvA with core tasks: grant advice, valorisation support, legal support, event organization and supporting communication activities.
