Are you the biomechanist with excellent knowledge and skills in inertial sensor technology, Matlab programming and with a strong interest in running? If so, we are looking for you to contribute to an innovative and worldwide excelling research project!
Within the Runner Assist project, we are looking for a junior researcher / PhD Student to work in the field innovative methods of analyzing human motion in running, aimed at assisting primary and secondary prevention of running related injuries. In the Netherlands, more than 2 million people can be considered active runners. Unfortunately, many of them get injures. The Runner Assist project aims at developing and validating a real-time feedback system for runners to assist them in preventing injuries and improving their performance. In the Runner Assist project, there is a strong collaboration with Xsens, TRIMM and SensoRun.
Tasks
Your tasks will mainly concern the development and execution of research on identifying parameters in the running technique that can be associated with the development of running related injuries. You will perform measurements inside and outside the gait laboratory. Based on inertial sensor data you will develop models to identify relevant parameters in the running technique and real-time as well as summarized feedback modalities to inform the runner about changes in running technique or possible overload. Using innovative data-analysis technique you will search for new relations and association within the collected parameters. The results of these studies will be described international scientific journals.
An important part of the position is collaboration with other researchers in the field but also with technical developers as well as people from the practical field (runners, trainers, coaches, sport physician and therapists). Besides performing research some teaching task may be part of the tasks.

RRD offers an inspiring academic setting in the close vicinity of practice. For this project, we offer a position for the duration of 3 years, 36 hours per week. The job is indexed at FWG55 of the hospital CAO with a starting salary of € 2612,- per month based on 36 hours per week.

RRD is affiliated with Roessingh Rehabilitation Hospital in Enschede.
