This is how attractive we have made it for you as a Chinese master's student who wants to come to the Netherlands to do a PhD:

  • Did you know that in the Netherlands you almost never pay tuition fees to do a four-year full-time PhD trajectory? (There are just a few faculties with exemptions to this rule).
  • And did you know that all universities in the Netherlands are ranked in the top of the global worldwide rankings (position 201 and better)?
  • And perhaps even most practical: the Netherlands is centrally located in Europe, distances are short; you travel through The Netherlands by railway like you do Shanghai by metro.
  • Best kept secret: you don't have to learn the Dutch language! Almost all Dutch people speak English, and you can do your dissertation and research in English.
  • And 20 more things that make The Netherlands unique!

Do you want to do your PhD in the Netherlands? Then this opportunity - exclusively for Chinese postgraduates and Dutch institutions, professors and recruiters - is your chance. Register now, create a profile, upload your CV and get a chance to be invited for a one-on-one video interview by a Dutch professor to discuss your research proposal. This all takes place online and you can join the event from home, how convenient! The sooner you complete your registration, the sooner professors are able to study your CV.

This is your opportunity to talk with your possible future Dutch PhD supervisor about your research ideas. Take your chance to have a 20 minutes' one-on-one interview!

Requirements

  • A master's degree (or soon obtaining).
In the Netherlands a master’s degree is obligatory to start a PhD. You can only participate in this event if you have a master’s degree or if you soon obtain a master’s degree. If you have a bachelor’s degree you can not participate and can not apply for an interview.

  • A good level of English, a TOEFL/IELTS certificate (or soon obtaining)
To communicate with your Dutch and international colleagues you need to have a good level of English.  Most Dutch universities require a TOEFL score of 80 and higher or IELTS of 6.5 and higher. You do not need to speak or write Dutch, all your research can be done in English and Dutch society’s second language is English too.

  • Own funding, a CSC scholarship (or willing to apply for a CSC scholarship)

This event is only for Chinese master’s students who can bring their own funding or willing to apply for it. The China Scholarship Council (国家留学基金管理委员会) is the primary institution to apply for funding for your 4 year full PhD abroad. All Dutch universities are in the top world rankings and are eligible as a hosting organisation. Your professor will be glad to assist you with your application and refining your research proposal.

  • An up-to-date English CV and research statement

To be announced

Delft University of Technology, Engineering, Natural Sciences

If you meet all requirements and want to get the chance to have a one-on-one interview with a Dutch professor or university recruiter, you can start your registration until October 1st 2021. To apply you need to create an account on AcademicTransfer, upload your CV, complete your profile information and write a short draft research proposal.

After registering, Dutch professors will review the CV’s, proposals and profiles of all the potential candidates. The professors decide who they invite for a personal video interview. If you are one of the lucky candidates who receive an interview invitation, you will get an email with a proposal from the professor.

Although this is open until October 1st 2021, first come, first served so to say. Make sure you apply as soon as possible to have a greater chance. When professors have found the right candidates, the closing date could be adjusted to a date earlier in time.
