Job description

As an intern at the University Clinic for Equine Health, you will work together with dedicated specialists, residents, and students to deliver high-quality veterinary care for horses and other equids.

Your job
As an intern, you will be responsible for keeping the university clinic operational after the transfer of information from specialists in the morning. You will be actively involved in patient rounds, consults, admission of patients and the logistics of laboratory samples. In addition, you will perform common tasks such as inserting IV catheters, tubing and administering medication. You will also play an important role in supervising master students in their clinical skills and clinical education. You will rotate through Internal Medicine and Surgery and be required to work evening and night shifts. You may also participate in the anaesthesia on-call duties, following in-house training.

Requirements

  • You are a veterinarian with an interest in and experience with horses.
  • You are highly motivated to further develop yourself in the field of equine medicine.
  • Practical experience is an advantage, but not a strict requirement.
  • You have a proactive, positive, enthusiastic and flexible attitude.
  • You have good communication skills.

Conditions of employment

  • A contract for a period of 18 months, starting date 1 October 2025;
  • a working week of 38 hours and a gross monthly salary of €3,378,- (salary scale 10 under the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU));
  • 8% holiday pay and 8.3% year-end bonus;
  • a pension scheme, partially paid parental leave and flexible terms of employment based on the CAO NU.
