Job description

Are you passionate about AI technologies and digital twins? Are you driven to develop innovative AI algorithms and methods to enhance sustainability in industrial processes? Do you thrive on collaborating with high-tech companies to implement your research? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our AIMS5.0 project as a Postdoctoral Researcher.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher with a background in operations research, mathematics, artificial intelligence, industrial engineering, mechanical engineering, or computer science.

This 2-year Postdoc position is funded by the AIMS5.0 European project, which aims to revolutionize the manufacturing industry through the development of AI-enabled hardware and software components across the entire value chain. With 53 industrial and academic partners, the project focuses on enhancing overall efficiency and sustainability.

At Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), you will be part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary team working at the intersection of computer science and industrial engineering. As a Postdoc in the Industrial Engineering department, your focus will be on the development of AI-enabled planning and scheduling methods that can adapt to the dynamic nature of modern manufacturing processes and supply chains.

You will contribute to real-world industrial use cases, such as:
  • Resource-adaptive product specifications
  • Optimized planning to mitigate supply chain bottlenecks
  • Efficient manufacturing of customized products in small batches
  • Improved traceability and root cause analysis in incident management

About the Team
You will join the Operations Planning, Accounting & Control (OPAC) group, known for its strong industry connections and cutting-edge research in operations management, transportation, manufacturing operations, and reliability and maintenance. We collaborate closely with researchers and industrial partners to bring impactful solutions to high-tech manufacturing challenges.

Requirements

  • A completed PhD (or thesis submitted by the start of the position) in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in simulation, digital twins, and/or machine learning techniques.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills with a demonstrated ability in quantitative modelling.
  • Proficiency in programming (e.g., Python and/or Java).
  • Affinity with smart manufacturing and digital factory concepts.
  • A research-driven mindset and ability to work independently.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, especially in industry-academic collaboration settings.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Conditions of employment

Fixed-term contract: 2 years.

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station. In addition, we offer you:
  • Full-time employment for 2 years.
  • Salary in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale 10 (min. € 4,060 max. € 5,331).
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
  • High-quality training programs on general skills, didactics and topics related to research and valorization.
  • An excellent technical infrastructure, on-campus children's day care and sports facilities.
  • Partially paid parental leave and an allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
  • A TU/e Postdoc Association that helps you to build a stronger and broader academic and personal network, and offers tailored support, training and workshops.
  • A Staff Immigration Team is available for international candidates, as are a tax compensation scheme (the 30% facility) and a compensation for moving expenses.
