Job description

The technician will carry out a range of tasks involving both in vitro laboratory experiments (e.g. histology, imaging, and cell culture) and in vivo animal studies (largely behavioural tests). The technician will be required to work in close collaboration with a PhD student appointed on the same project.
The responsibilities/duties will be to: implement and perform different animal experiments, behavioural tests and laboratory assays; analyse and interpret the data acquired; provide assistance/training to students; show attention to details and organizational skills. Additional knowledge on RNA sequencing and transcriptomic data analysis will be an advantage.

Requirements

We are looking for an excellent, highly motivated research technician with strong laboratory skills and experience in animal handling. Candidates must hold either article 9 or 12/13f permit and should be willing to work in an animal-related research environment. Additional experience in bioinformatics would be favourable.

Conditions of employment

Your salary will be a maximum of € 3.293,- gross per month (scale 7), depending on your qualifications and relevant experience, based on a full-time appointment.
The duration of the project is 48 months. The initial contract will be for 1 year and after positive evaluation this will be extended for 3 additional years.
The conditions of employment comply with the Collective Labour Agreement for Medical Centres (CAO-UMC).

Medische Oncologie

The University of Groningen and the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) offer an excellent working environment for high quality biomedical research. The research technician will be appointed at the Dept. of Radiation Oncology at the UMCG, while working within the section of Molecular Cell Biology at the Dept. of Biomedical Sciences.
This full-time (1.0 FTE) research technician position is headed by Dr. Lara Barazzuol and is part of a collaborative, international, multi-disciplinary project funded by the SU2C-CRUK Paediatric Cancer New Discoveries Challenge, which comprises several institutions including the UMCG. The group of Dr. Lara Barazzuol is investigating the side effects of cancer treatment on the brain. The present project focuses on the role of the neuroimmune response in the development of radiotherapy-induced neurological and endocrine dysfunction, and provides exposure to a range of subjects ranging from molecular cell biology to behavioural neuroscience.
