Then we are looking for you. The Graduate School of Social Sciences is the home-base for 11 graduate programmes within the Social Sciences.
The Board of Studies of the Graduate School of Social Sciences is seeking two student members for an appointment of six hours per week for one year, starting October 1. The Board of Studies consists of the director of the Graduate School and the directors of the Master's and Research Master's programmes, and constitutes the School’s most important consultative body. It determines general policy relating to the education provided in our programmes and related matters.
What are you going to do - Contribute to the discussion and decision-making on general education policy within the GSSS;
- Contribute to and support the development of new policy, with specific attention to the needs and interests of the students;
- Help to supervise proper implementation and monitoring of GSSS policy, with specific attention to the needs and interests of students and to the diversity of the student population;
- Contribute to the development and execution of internationalisation policy and the international (student) environment at the FMG;
- Periodically meet with the student representatives of the GSSS degree programmes and to bring up problems and wishes from these fora which span across degree programmes or are not adequately addressed at degree programme level;
- Periodically initiate meetings with the Faculty Student Council and study associations, in order to discuss mutual problem areas and needs;
- Periodically meet with other Board of Studies (BOS) students within the FMG and the UvA in the interest of developing collective positions and joint initiatives;
- Organise the labour-market/career event of the Social Sciences, together with the student board members of the College of Social Science.
What do you have to offer - When starting the position, you must have at least half a year left to go in one of the (Research) Master's programmes at the GSSS;
- You are enterprising and proactive and have good interpersonal skills;
- You have a good social network within the FMG and/or are able to build such a network;
- You have an excellent command of the English language (written and spoken);
- Preferably, at least one of the two BOS student members will have good command of the Dutch language (written and spoken);
- You are capable of making an independent contribution to policy development within the GSSS, preferably evidenced by previous relevant activities;
- Familiarity with the organisational structure of the UvA is a plus;
- You have a problem-solving mindset and good organizational skills.
What do we offer you The position concerns temporary employment of 6 hours per week for a maximum term of one year. For this position the University Job Classification profile Student Assistent applies.
The salary is €2.951 gross per month based on a 38-hour working week, in keeping with salary scale SA, as per the
Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities.
We additionally offer an extensive package of secondary benefits, including 8% holiday allowance and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.
This position is incompatible with another role in participation in decision-making of the UvA.
