Job description

You are part of the support staff of the faculty of Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering. You report to the executive Faculty secretary and work closely with the faculty ICT manager, contract managers and the information coordinator. Additionally, you are part of the university wide Data Stewards team which is coordinated by a coordinator located in the library and you liaise with privacy, security, ethics, legal experts at the university level.Your main task is to advise and train researchers and the faculty on research data and software management. You will:

Advice and training

  • Support researchers in drafting data management and open science sections in research proposals and Data Management Plans (DMP)s at the beginning of projects in line with funder, privacy and ethics regulations and intellectual property rights considerations.
  • Assist researchers in planning the collection, storage, documentation, and publication of data and software in research projects.
  • Support researchers in basic ethics/privacy/legal issues related to research data and software and connect them with relevant experts when specific or in-depth support is needed.
  • Regularly organize and deliver training for faculty PhD students to assist them in faculty and university research data and software policy requirements (drafting DMPs and archiving data and software).
  • Run information sessions about research data and software management at group/department level and inspire researchers to participate.

Engagement and community

  • Act as spokesperson for your faculty on data and software management, create awareness and explain to researchers the added value of good data and software management.
  • Engage and enable researchers at your faculty to adopt good data and software management practices
  • Liaise with the data steward coordinator and other data stewards to streamline data and software management related workflows within TU Delft
  • Liaise with the data managers and research software engineers at the Digital Competence Centre to facilitate FAIR data and software practices at the faculty
  • Facilitate community activities within the scope of your faculty research data and software management

Policy and strategy

  • Get familiarized with the faculty and university research data and software policy requirements and support researchers accordingly.  

Requirements

We are looking for candidates experienced with research methodologies relevant to the faculty's research.

The candidates:

  • Have interest in and advocate for open science, FAIR data and software
  • Have a PhD or equivalent research experience in a relevant subject area (desirable).
  • Have a broad understanding of how research operates and how data and software underpins reproducible research.
  • Have a good knowledge and hands on experience in managing and making research data and software reproducible.
  • Are excellent communicators, able to speak not only with researchers, but also with other support staff, and are sensitive to organisation-specific culture and practices.
  • Can work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Are fluent in English. Dutch is a plus.            

Conditions of employment

This position has an amount of max. 32 (0,8 fte) working hours per week. The offer contains a temporary appointment until 1 March 2023 desirably starting from 1st of July.

  • A salary according to the Collective Labor Agreement of the Dutch Universities, plus 8% holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%. The salary is based on scale 9 or scale 10 depending on education and experience with a minimum of € 2.979,- and a maximum of € 4.490,- per month on a fulltime basis.
