Open Science Advisor (0,8 - 1,0 fte)

Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) is hiring an Open Science Advisor to increase the awareness and adoption of open scholarship practices among researchers and professional services staff. You will join Erasmus Research Services (ERS) -- a young and dynamic department within Professional Services at EUR -- and collaborate with a team of community and engagement managers, data stewards, and ethics professionals to achieve the ambitious goal of making open scholarship the default way of working at EUR.

Job description
Your main tasks and responsibilities will be the following:

Advice for Research

• Inform and advise researchers/lecturers, professional services, and management on how open scholarship practices can increase academic and societal impact. Example: you are invited to give an introductory talk on opportunities and challenges of open data in business and management.
  
  
• Inform and advise researchers in creating, describing, publishing, using, and archiving results of academic research in line with open scholarship principles. Example: you provide a researcher with the necessary information for them to start their first preregistration.
  
  
• Advise and support researchers and grant officers on how to organically embed open scholarship in funding applications. Example: you discuss with an NWO Vidi grant applicant and a grant officer what (project-specific) information on open scholarship could be included in the funding application.
  
  

Teaching

• Contribute to improving education and training on open scholarship by developing, maintaining, and/or teaching courses and workshops. Example: you develop and teach a workshop on how to create and share a preregistration document on a trustworthy repository.
  
  

Collaboration

• You cooperate with other units at ERS (grant support and knowledge transfer), departments at EUR (e.g., library), and strategy programs (e.g., Open & Responsible Science, Recognition & Rewards) to increase awareness, facilitate support, and align institutional activities (directly and indirectly) related to open scholarship. Example: you help organize a series of events on open scholarship in qualitative research, e.g., by brainstorming specific topics of interest and inviting internal/external speakers from relevant networks.
  
  

Other

• Dedicate 1 day/week (0.2 FTE) to research, to keep up to date and contribute to (inter)national conversations on open scholarship. Example: you co-author an opinion piece on new ways to involve citizens in co-creating research questions that are relevant for academics and the public alike.
  
  

You recognize yourself in the following description:

• You have an academic background (minimally completed MSc/MA);
  
  
• You adhere to the values of open scholarship and support their practical implementation;
  
  
• You have had first-hand experience with one or more open scholarship practices (e.g., open data, open code, societal engagement);
  
  
• You effectively and persuasively communicate with people coming from different (academic) backgrounds;
  
  
• Your networking skills allow you to build bridges and reduce conflict in order to achieve a common goal;
  
  
• You speak English very well (minimum CEFR-level C1).
  
  

Desirable (but optional):

• You have completed a PhD in a discipline where open scholarship is actively discussed (e.g., psychology);
  
  
• You have some experience in teaching open scholarship values, practices, and/or tools (e.g., by means of lectures or workshops);
  
  
• You have (co-)authored documents (e.g., blog posts, opinion pieces, academic papers, policy documents) discussing open scholarship.
  
  

An internationally oriented and varied job in an enthusiastic team, with good working conditions in accordance with the Collective Labor Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU).

The start date of this position is 1 May 2023 and you will be based at the Campus Woudestein - Rotterdam, located at Erasmus Research Services (ERS). The position is for 0,8 fte - 1 fte. The salary is dependent on your experience and knowledge and ranges from a minimum of € 3.974 to a maximum of € 5.439 gross per month on a fulltime basis, in accordance with Scale 11 of the CAO-NU. In addition, we offer an 8% holiday allowance, an end-of-year payment of 8.3%, and a very generous paid leave scheme. Furthermore, EUR is affiliated with ABP for the pension provision, and we offer partially paid parental leave, fully paid extended birth leave for partners, a personal career budget, work-life balance coaches, discounted collective health insurance, and more.
