Job description

Within Detox@Home scientists from three knowledge institutes, clinicians, patients and industry collaborate to develop and use health technology within outpatient detoxification by:

(1) Supporting patient - clinician interaction through a content and communication platform,

(2) Predicting and detecting withdrawal symptoms using telemetry and patient reported measurements, integrated in an intelligent monitoring and feedback system to support decision making, and

(3) Supporting patients & clinicians with e-health interventions (e.g behavioral therapy, stress reduction and pharmacological support using automated medication dispensers).

The PhD candidate will focus on user requirements, prototype development, and pre-clinical testing, and will work closely with other researchers at Saxion, RadboudUMC, Nedap Healthcare, and addiction treatment centers. The candidate will play a meaningful role in the learning community Technology in Addiction care, mentor BSc and MSc students and participate in other educational activities.

Requirements

  • For this position we are looking for an ambitious candidate with a Master’s Degree in computer science, interaction technology or similar field.
  • Given the multidisciplinary consortium and involvement of patients, strong communication and collaboration skills are essential, including near native fluency in Dutch.
  • A solid background in co-creation and development of intelligent and interactive systems is required.
  • Having experience in working with disadvantaged populations, or within healthcare settings is much appreciated.
  • The candidate will need to be able to do site visits across the Netherlands, and be able to both work as a team member and as an independent colleague.

Conditions of employment

  • As a PhD candidate at UT, you will be appointed to 80% position for five years, with a qualifier in the first year, within a very stimulating and exciting scientific environment;

  • Your salary and associated conditions are in accordance with the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities (CAO-NU);
  • You will receive a gross monthly salary ranging from € 2.541,- (first year) to € 3.247,- (fifth year);
  • There are excellent benefits including a holiday allowance of 8% of the gross annual salary, an end-of-year bonus of 8.3%, and a solid pension scheme;
  • The flexibility to work (partially) from home;
  • A minimum of 232 leave hours in case of full-time employment based on a formal workweek of 38 hours. A full-time employment in practice means 40 hours a week, therefore resulting in 96 extra leave hours on an annual basis.
