Job description

We are currently looking for a highly motivated doctoral researcher for a new position within the Ultrafast Dynamics in Nanoscale Systems group at Eindhoven University of Technology (the Netherlands). This position is funded by the ERC project 'EQUATE', which has the aim of engineering quantum materials for terahertz applications. In particular, the goal is to study the ultrafast thermodynamic properties of layered quantum materials, and exploit these properties towards functional terahertz devices with unprecedented performance.

You will be working in a multidisciplinary team embedded in the Department of Applied Physics and Science Education. The group is part of the Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute, the Center for Quantum Materials and Technology and the Center for Terahertz Science and Technology. For more information on our research group, see www.ultrafastdynamics.com.

We offer excellent primary and secondary benefits, a highly innovative and prospering academic ecosystem, and are situated in one of the strongest high-tech hotspots worldwide.

Requirements

  • Motivated researcher, with a MSc in (applied) physics or a similar degree
  • The ideal candidate would have experience in research on 2D materials and/or experience with (ultrafast) optical techniques  and/or terahertz spectroscopy and/or nanofabrication
  • Excellent (written and verbal) proficiency in English, good communication skills
  • Independent and responsible
  • Fluent in spoken and written English (C1 level)

Conditions of employment

A meaningful job in a dynamic and ambitious university, in an interdisciplinary setting and within an international network. You will work on a beautiful, green campus within walking distance of the central train station. In addition, we offer you:
  • Full-time employment for four years, with an intermediate evaluation (go/no-go) after nine months. You will spend 10% of your employment on teaching tasks.
  • Salary and benefits (such as a pension scheme, paid pregnancy and maternity leave, partially paid parental leave) in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities, scale P (min. €2,872 max. €3,670).
  • A year-end bonus of 8.3% and annual vacation pay of 8%.
  • High-quality training programs and other support to grow into a self-aware, autonomous scientific researcher. At TU/e we challenge you to take charge of your own learning process.
  • An excellent technical infrastructure, on-campus children's day care and sports facilities.
  • An allowance for commuting, working from home and internet costs.
  • Staff Immigration Team and a tax compensation scheme (the 30% facility) for international candidates.
